Wednesday, May 11th

Hot and sunny! Arrived in Barcelona at 7 a.m., had a leisurely breakfast, since the ship was going to be staying in port overnight and most of tomorrow. We walked the length of Las Ramblas - the main pedestrian street - lots of people, lots of 'Living Statues'.

These people, in heavy makeup and costumes, could stand absolutely still for ages - not a blink or a sniff, until after a certain number of passersby had dropped coins into their boxes - then they would go into a frenzy of pedaling, dancing or whatever, and just as suddenly freeze into position again. It was quite intriguing and impressive.

Lots of tilework, wherever we looked.... thought I might copy this one day for the patio.....

The Gothic Quarter was beautiful, their opera house unbelievably ornate.

Around 3 pm we headed back to the ship to enjoy the bbq (grilled chicken, paella, ribs,salads, various fruits and desserts) on the Lido deck, shared our table with a very nice couple from Oregon.

The masts and lines of the ship were all strung with lights for the evening. Listened to the string quartet and early to bed.
