The historic centre of town had lots of revitalization in progress....and some really neat buildings that hadn't been touched yet.....
There were lots of beautiful gardens - huge masses of spider plants and asparagus ferns in the public garden areas, along with bird of paradise shrubs, and many trees had been severely pruned and were just beginning to sprout new growth.
We toured an art gallery attached to an old Jesuit church - amazing wood carvings; a smaller church had gilded and bejeweled statues that were really spectacular, and roamed the little winding streets until early afternoon, then headed back to the ship for lunch - I checked on Tina and Louis but they had already left the ship - he'll be assessed at the hospital and then flown home.
It was odd to see the local swimming area - right at the edge of the harbour, near fishing boats and the cruise ship pier! If you look carefully you can see one person swimming here - three or four others had just climbed out at the far left of the photo, while others were just getting in.
We spent the rest of the afternoon on the aft pool deck in the hot tub and lounging in the sun, then prepared for dinner (nicoise salad, swordfish, chocolate decadence cake). The Filipino crew put on a variety show which was really entertaining - lots of other talents on top of their culinary ones!
