Wednesday June 18th
 GLACIER BAY, ALASKA
Sunrise 4:04 am, Sunset 10 pm.
Guess we are heading south again!
Today was basically a sea day, with scenic cruising of Glacier Bay.
Logan started the day with blueberry waffles for a change. Park rangers boarded the ship to do commentaries on the various glaciers - the Johns Hopkins glacier was quite spectacular, as was the Marjerie Glacier. Logan often reminded us of the Cruise Director's jokes, saying 'We'll be spending the entire day looking at ..... ICE???? Everyone enjoyed the fantastic scenery and the day went by quickly
Logan posed (with the sun in his eyes) in front of the ship's bell - hard to see but the name "Zuiderdam" is engraved on it, and then we got up close and personal with a glacier - occasionally chunks of ice would break off and splash into the water, forming icebergs.
And of course there was more swimming and hot tub time! You can see how close we are to the glacier through the windows behind the kids.
In the afternoon a Polar Bear Plunge was organized, and both kids signed up for it. The outside air temperature was about 10C but the outdoor pool temperature was fairly warm - so the entertainment guy threw a large bucket of ice cubes into it! The kids lined up with the other daring plungers and they went in like dominoes, one at a time. Our camera caught Jodie in mid air ...
and caught Logan just before he jumped ....
They were all presented with 'Certificates of Bravery for A Glacier Bay Swim'.
In this narrow bay, we passed lots of small rocky islands, this one covered with seals basking in the sun. Formal night followed - on the way to the dining room we came across the captain posing for photos, and Logan quickly joined the line and waited his turn - for a kid who doesn't like having his picture taken, this turned out really well!
It was a 'Surf and Turf' night and Logan bravely tried lobster for the first time. He enjoyed a few good bites before passing it on to his dad, but finished off his steak with no problem. I don't know why he didn't gain five pounds during the cruise! Everyone headed to bed early to be ready for the busy day tomorrow.
